As Lifeliver transferred this blues standard to Japanese settings, here is my version of the same in Finland. Stem Road 51, known in Finnish as "Länsiväylä" (Western Passageway) in Finland is one of the most beautiful roads in Finland, and also a pretty important route for the Southwest Finland. It starts in Helsinki as a six lane motorway, and ends as a romantic country road in Hanko. Here is my tribute to that road.

If you ever go to Finland at southwest
here's the road that is number one and best -
have some fun - at Road 51

It runs - from Helsinki to Hanko
more than one hundred fifty klicks to go

It starts in Helsinki, then Espoo, I'm thinking
Kyrkslätt, Siuntio, Karis and Inkoo
You'll see Ingarskila, and Ekenäs; at Raseborg
a Medieval castle, no need to hassle
Koverhar steel mills, then you come to Hanko

So take with you your swimming gear
'cause the coast and sea is always near
get some tan - at Road 51!

You have no need to hurry, just language to worry
it's Finnish or Swedish [while they all do speak English]

Nice one Susanna and thanks for the shout-out. Even though the pronunciation is challenging I had no problem singing along. Is it just me that finds Nat's phrasing a little mistimed? I think he does better on those warm ballads, even though his original trio did a lot of swing.

Finnish sometimes sounds similar to Japanese in the vowel system and the consonants used - lots of y's, k's and esses. Even some of the names are the same - Yuka, Asko, etc. (except in Japan they would be female names). 555 miles clocked up.

*smile* Ever thought why I began to study Japanese in the first place? Your observation is correct: and not only do Japanese and Finnish sound similar - their grammar is similar too. Many Japanese consider Finnish as "childishly easy language to learn". I found Japanese easier to learn than English - only the writing system produces me problems.

Japanese and Finnish pronunciation is pretty similar. A double vowel denotes a long vowel: the city of Espoo is pronounced much like "e-spaw".

The umlaut such as in towns Kyrkslätt and Ekenäs denotes a frontal vowel. The letter 'ä' is always pronounced like a in 'cat' and 'ö' like i in "sir"

The Old Town of Ekenäs is a candidate of Unesco World Heritage list. It represents the Scandinavian town architecture of the 17th and 18th centuries. It, like Raseborg Castle (14th century), are worth of seeing.
