Many people have reportedly been drawn to Southern California because of the old New Year's icon, the Rose Parade. As far as I can remember, the skies and streets have always stayed dry and the skies clear or at least picturequely cloudy. My husband and I (who prefer the PARODY of the Rose Parade, the Doo Dah Parade) have often wondered if anything would change if it rained on that day... at least once, please!
Never had precipitation before
On that big day in Pasadena - what's more
It's the same each year and so cliche
A clear blue New Year's morning
And the floats compete with the crowds in the street
So...
First of January, they all look quite scary
The flowers hiding plenty in the old Rose Parade
Folks look up their noses, bordered by the roses
Hope it rains on New Year's at the old Rose Parade
At the football game, the Rose Bowl game
Several feet of snow would be nice
Watching kickers fall would be the best of all
The queen and her princesses in their tacky dresses
And commentators' fake smiles at the old Rose Parade

Great job, Mari. What people outside of SoCal don't realize is that at least oneTV station (KTLA) will rerun the parade consecutively day and night. Imagine 24 hours of Bob Eubank! Do you remember when you could turn the sound off on the TV, and get off-the-wall running commentary on KROQ radio? That made the Rose Parade worth watching. The difference between the two biggest holiday parades is that The Macy's Parade is "in your face", while the Rose Parade is so limp and passive. And yes, give me the Doo Dah Parade every time.
Very cure, but DKTOS... I hate the rose parade!
I remember when I was a kid and New Years day would be around 10 degrees out and I'd watch that parade and think to myself how nice it would be to have such a mild winter. Yeah... I hope they get a glacier. LOL. I dump 5 inches of snow on this one. Good job.

I like festivals. I can't say that I'd ever go out of my way to see the Rose Parade.
