The Lyrics
Turmoil in the Middle East is attracting militant recruits from many Western nations, indoctrinated with radical Islam. TOS was a nostalgic longing for another land that was tranquil but has been torn by civil strife and home-grown terrorism in the recent past.
If I ever double-cross and flee to ISIS,
Then daily as I'm posing, oft to slay,
I will listen for the Muslim call at sunset
And see the Sons of Allah fall to pray.
Just to hear again the ripple of the ammo!
The women in the shadows make me stray;
Then I sit astride a tank, fire from a sabot,
And watch my hairy comrades have their way.
More jihadis flowing o'er the sand from nigh'r land
Are perps allied together as they grow;
And the women in their burqas riggin' bomb belts
Speak of anguish that the Westerners don't know.
Formal Westerners can try to teach us their way.
Some scorn us just for seeming hot for war,
But their flights to Hell will face our crafty goon teams;
More might extends Iran, shilled from Qatar.
And if I'm going to see a life hereafter
(Where Koran's text assures rewards for me),
I will ask Allah to let me take my revels

One of my great grandmothers, whose maiden name was Lynch, was from Galway. I'm told that the Lynches had the run of the place -- a couple of them were even mayors of Galway. And yet, even though I was an Arabic linguist for the US Army in a previous millenium, I never made the connection between Galway and Middle East radicalism ........ until now
Susanna: Nasty, yes; what drew me to TOS were the third line about sunset and the last stanza about afterlife. The other three stanzas took some work.
CML: Those Northern Irish rebellions had a strong religious (Catholic/Protestant) rivalry along with the politics. That's analogous to Sunni/Shi'a conflicts.

"anguish that Westerners don't know" and "Scorn us for being hot for war" are nice echoes of the original. "Galway Bay" was one of my father's favorite songs. He also liked a parody with a line "When she talks, she doesn't speak in Gaelic, but in a language that the clergy do not know". That may have been one of my childhood introductions to the concept of parody. Your version is a nicely topical rendition.
