The Lyrics
I'm using the term clew liberally here, as a cord (one meaning of the word)--i.e. rope. Pitons and carabiners are mountain-climbing equipment. "Topo" is short for topographical. BART = Bay Area Rapid Transit.
Eddie wants to climb up where its high, cool.
If he'd fall he would be splattered goo.
But something's missing--it really matters, too.
Crevasses were wide open.
He encountered little streams. . .easy to ford.
Soon he reached giant peaks that started to soar.
The thing he had left far behind was his cords.
This guy was a dimwit.
He's climbin' up the slope 'n'
The sky is azure blue.
He forgot to put rope in.
He'll rappel without a clew.
It was 8 A.M.; he'd got an early start.
Part of the way to here, he rode free on BART.
He opened his pack and checked the topo charts.
This guy was a dimwit.
