The Lyrics
Big Steely Dan fan here. When they had a hit, their musicianship made radio worth listening to. Sometimes their lyrics were opaque, but not in this case. "Rikki, Don't Lose that Number" is obviously about a young woman who trusted her instincts, as told by the condescending guy who creeped her out. I've just changed the narrator.
I hear you're leaving --
