The Lyrics
In 2004, the German-language film Downfall (Der Untergang) about Hitler's last days, was released. A couple years later, the film began to be parodied by YouTube users, who removed the original subtitles and wrote pretend ones concerning current events, sport, pop culture, etc. One of the most beloved characters of the parodies is SS-Gruppenfuhrer Hermann Fegelein, who is depicted in the parodies as a prankster making Hitler pound the desk constantly in rage. I am a huge fan, so I decided to make a parody about the parodies--my 103rd overall but first of indie Canadian artist Maren Ord; the OS was in the Thomas and the Magic Railroad soundtrack.
In the bunker halls, there does dwell a dude
Who likes to play some pranks in the planning room.

That Downfall's the film to show
When Dolfy's desk goes boom.

Make Hitler so made, he's lost his mind.
The Fuhrerbunker
Is o'ercome with laughter
With good old Fegelein.
Feg'lein cut the brakes from the Fuhrer's car;
You could say that he just has gone too far!
He plays vuvuzelas
No matter what the Fuhrer does,
And we go har-har-har.

Give Untergangers lots of laugh lines.
Traudl and Krebs know
Pranks are the way to go;
They call on Fegelein.
Burgdorf can't compare; he's only drinking.
Jodl doesn't show up oft enough.
But when you have Herr Fegelein, you will absolutely know
That laughing isn't tough.

DKOS so I'll abstain, but worthy subject matter. As much as I love the YT parodies, one most not forget what a magnificent film it was, chilling, gritty and unforgettable, not to mention the brilliant performance of Bruno Gans in the title role. A must watch for all who recognize the futility of war, any war..
